Andy was a high school freshman who frequently seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had a daring personality and frequently wanted to do what his older brothers were doing to have fun. The essential difficulty with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were consequently within their legal rights to operate a car and to consume alcohol.

Andy, nevertheless, had a tough time comprehending the fact that as a fifteen-year-old adolescent he should not be drinking. In fact, on the other hand, Andy regularly drank with his high school friends after school, predominantly on the weekends.

After receiving alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was actually shocked to discover that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had more or less five or ten drinks. When he articulated this to the attending doctor at the hospital, on the other hand, the physician told Andy that drinking five or ten bottles of beer over a two or three hour time frame could in fact be significantly more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare practitioner further emphasized how excessive alcohol can cause the brain to shut down a person's respiratory system and that when this happens, an individual can cease to exist.

This was the first word of warning to Andy that he was drinking in an unsafe way and that there are ramifications for such activities. The physician told Andy that he was a lucky young man because he almost lost his life from an alcohol overdose the previous night.

The doctor also spoke to Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol treatment for Andy. His parents were delighted that Andy was all right and told the physician that they would look into getting Andy alcohol treatment.

While conversing with his parents, Andy informed them that there must be a solid reason why he did not pass away and that he felt a sense of thankfulness that he was still alive. He also told his parents that the most ironic part about the entire drinking situation was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the previous week in health class at school.

At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was teaching didn't seem to make a lot of sense to Andy. Due to the fact that he almost died, on the other hand, he felt that he should have listened more carefully in class and applied what he had learned to his life.

Andy notified his parents that he couldn't wait to go back to Mr. Johnson's classroom and express regret to Mr. Johnson for not showing more attention to a subject that was as relevant as learning about alcohol poisoning.
